Choosing the Right Woman’s Hair Restoration Surgeon

Choosing a hair restoration surgeon can be challenging because there are so many of these surgeons available that perform this type of procedure.  This is especially the case where restoration surgery is performed on women who are experiencing hair loss or thinning.  What is important is that you should never make a hasty decision when you are selecting a hair restoration surgeon whether you are a man or a woman.

However, the needs of a woman are considerably different from those of a man where this surgery is concerned.  So there are certain steps that she needs to take in order to ensure that they are choosing the right hair restoration surgeon for performing the procedure so that it is successful.  Here are some suggestions for making sure that you choose the right surgeon.

Decide on the type of woman’s hair restoration procedure you want done – once you have done that, then you should only select a surgeon who is experienced in that specific procedure.  Hair plugs, scalp flaps, and other transplant methods are common but it is rare that a surgeon will be experienced in all three areas.

Talk to people who have had the procedure done and get their recommendations – you may want to inquire with family members, friends, co-workers, and even your neighbors if there is a hair restoration surgeon that they would recommend contacting.  Normally, any person who is close to you will never give you a recommendation if the procedure didn’t work for them.

Make sure that the surgeon is licensed and certified at performing the surgery – doctors are not required to be certified in hair restoration surgery so you should find a surgeon that has the letters FACS following their names.  It means that they have been evaluated by the Fellow, American College of Surgeons and passed the evaluation.

Make a list of questions to ask the surgeon – if the physician shies away from any of your questions, you would be wise to move on to another.  Talk to them about the procedure while at the same time inquiring about their background and years of experience performing hair restoration surgical procedures.  Hopefully, they will also have a portfolio of patient “before and after” photographs to show you while you are talking with them.

Don’t rush your decision – remember that hair restoration surgery is a life-altering procedure and making the wrong decision could haunt you the rest of your life.
